At my school there is a new student orientation program called WEB. WEB stands for “Where Everybody Belongs” and it’s all about giving the 7th graders a chance to meet new people before the school year starts. Eighth graders can sign up to be a WEB Leader and we plan a day full of games and activities.
During our summer, we spend a couple of days before hand to train for the WEB Day. We each have a partner along with a group of twelve to eighteen soon-to-be seventh graders. During the training days, we get with our partner and practice teaching the games and getting our assigned classrooms prepared.
All of the games we do are getting to know you games and ones to help the new students get to know the people in their group so at least they know a few people when they start at Spring View. Before we go to our rooms, we get all 500 of the new students in the gym and get them spirited and excited with funny songs and cheers. After we do all the games, we take the students on a tour of the campus so they have somewhat of an idea where they’ll be going in just one week.
I loved getting to be a part of the WEB program and I think it’s a really special thing for the incoming seventh graders to get a chance to meet a few people before the school year and it’s fun to get them excited for their time at Spring View.
