We’ve kayaked as a family on the lake, but we’ve never done it on a river. I was super excited to hear that we would get to do it on our road trip. It was a totally different experience, but it was a lot of fun.
The major difference between the two are the river rapids. In the river, you can come across white rapids that you have to hit straight on or else you could spin around in circles and maybe tip over. My mom and I had an awesome time trying to navigate the rapids and the currents that come before. The Smith River in Northern California was absolutely gorgeous because the water was clear and not too cold to go swim in, the trees and landscape were spectacular, and there were even some bridges along the way to check out.
We did the half day trip, which was plenty for us. It was a three and a half mile ride which took about 2-3 hours and any more would’ve kicked out butts. Through Redwood Rides, we were in a tour group so we did get some help across the rapids. Those were my favorite parts since we got splashed and it was a little stressful (in a good way) to get passed them. It definitely felt like an accomplishment with my mom.
Luckily, we went in the summer time towards the end of July, beginning of August, so it was sunny and perfect for a fun adventure like this. Because of the awesome weather, when we got to the break point where most people went on the short hike (we did it the day before), we got to swim for a little bit in the river and check out the seasonal footbridge.
I would love to do something like this again with my family!

Is kayaking hard? I’ve never done it, but I totally want to now!

Kayaking can be hard depending on where and when you do it. The seasons change how difficult it is and the body of water you are on is the main factor.

I love your swimsuit Natalie! Where did you get it? All of your clothes in general are really cute, where do you do most of your shopping?
