The Hermit’s Rest Trail was probably one my favorite things to do in Grand Canyon National Park. Because we didn’t want to take the extremely crowded shuttle, we ended up walking a lot of it, which was awesome because we got to see some amazing views that shuttle-people wouldn’t see. The Hermit’s Rest Trail has a ton of lookouts plus the building at the end.
Following the Trail and the Overlooks
The different view points are:
- Trailview Overlook
- Maricopa Point
- Powell Point
- Hopi Point
- Mohave Point
- The Abyss
- Monument Creek Vista
- Pima Point.
Each point was unique and had its own view to offer which made the hike a lot more interesting. We ended up taking the shuttle from the trail head to Trailview, from Monument Creek to Pima, and then all the way back because those distances are the longest ones. We ate lunch at Mohave Point with a great view of the canyon. We brought snacks and water for the hike and had a great time.
Hermit’s Rest
The building is small and crowded, but it’s pretty cool to check out. The building has two fireplaces and the architecture is really cool because Mary Colter, who also built Hopi House in Grand Canyon Village and the Desert View Watchtower, also built this building. What’s really nice is those bathrooms are the cleanest I’ve ever seen at a national park. There’s also a water bottle refill station, so now I can say I drank Grand Canyon water.
