I’ve heard my mom and Nana talk about their favorite musicals to watch together and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! was one of them! I had never seen it, so before heading to Music Circus, I watched the groundbreaking musical movie about cowboys, farmers, and parties! The dancing and music brought this story to life both on film and on stage.
My favorite parts of this Broadway musical were the dancing in Out of My Dream and The Farmer and the Cowman because I got to see some incredible ballet and cancan, then later, some country square dancing all in one show. However, choreography can’t succeed without talented actors and actresses who portrayed the beloved characters of Oklahoma! perfectly.
I’ve had a blast attending all kinds of shows at Music Circus with the #BroadwaySacramentoAmbassadors and I was thrilled to have been invited by Julie Gallaher from Sacramento Top 10 and Get on the Map for Oklahoma!. Before the show, a few of us grabbed dinner at Lucca before heading over to the show and it’s definitely a place to go back to!
For those of you, like me, who didn’t know what this musical was about, it takes place in 1900s Oklahoma following a young girl named Laurey Williams and the competition between cowboy Curly McLain and her farm hand Jud Fry, her two potential suitors. This story also highlights Ado Annie who “Cain’t Say No” to men, but must decide whether she will marry Ali Hakin, a peddler man, or cowboy Will Parker.
Don’t miss your chance to see this outstanding 1943 Pulitzer Prize winning musical live on stage with Music Circus in Sacramento now until Sunday, June 30 at the Wells Fargo Pavilion! Oklahoma! is a hilarious musical full of acting, singing, and dancing that make this classic story come alive on stage.
