Expression Through Art

Expressing Yourself Or Your Feelings

June 12, 2016

Recently, I have figured out that expressing yourself and your feelings through something (like journaling, art, or dancing) is better than keeping to yourself and pretending not to notice or acknowledge it. If you keep to yourself, you will never be able to show the world who you are or cope with feelings.

Here’s is two examples:

  1. Expressing yourself is on of the best thing you can do. Being you and accepting you is important to your well being. Denying who you are and trying to be somebody else is the worst thing you can do.
  2. If you’re mad a somebody you might want to make them feel bad or get revenge…Don’t. If you act like that then most likely, it will not make you feel any better about yourself, but it will make you a bad person.

How I do It

I have multiple ways I express myself and my feelings.

Dancing

The way I’m feeling choses the song I dance to. If I’m mad at a friend, I’ll pick a song such as “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift and I start to choreograph to that. That usually takes my mind off of whatever I am feeling and I end up creating something beautiful that’s all about me. Dancing that way also expresses who I am as a person.

For example; I was happy about getting out of school and no more projects or due dates. I decided to dance it out to more Taylor Swift… “Shake it Off.”

Writing

Another way I show who I am and show my feelings is writing books or journaling.

Writing books helps me figure stuff out because I will create a character who has the same problems or feelings as I do and I watch how they work it out, so I know what to do. By the end of it, I realize that I knew what o do all along, but I didn’t know I knew it.

Having a journal also helps because as I write it out, I begin to get a better understanding.

Art

Art is a big one for me because there is so much you can do with it. You can express different things depending on the colors, mediums, tones, and shading. You can do art in different forms too such as sculpting instead of using paper.

When I’m happy, I will use bright colors and create fun happy pieces. Usually I am a very happy person, but on those rare events where I’m somethings else, I use different techniques. If I’m under-the-weather then my strokes of paint, or marker, or whatever medium I’m using will be longer and exaggerated.

Other Things

I haven’t done these things, but they might work for you:

  • Cooking your feelings
  • Boxing classes

Some of these things might seem like distractions, but they’re not! They really work and really help me. These might not be your thing, so find your own things to help you express yourself and your feelings.
