There’s No Place Like Homecoming

October 25, 2017

I just experienced my first Homecoming Week this year and it was amazing! Our school´s theme was “There’s no place like Homecoming” which was Wizard of Oz. All of the amazing Homecoming events made the week so much fun and I can’t wait for next year!

Floats

I was so happy that my friend Annie asked my friends and I to be on the Freshman Hoco float. The freshman theme was Munchkin Land, Sophomores had Haunted Forest, Juniors had Witch’s Castle, and Seniors had Emerald City. Izzy Montano and I got to be Munchkins and we danced around on the track in between the JV and Varsity football games.

Spirit Week

I’m not going to lie, the spirit days could’ve been cooler, but it was still fun to dress up. Monday was called “I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore” and everyone dressed up like farmers in plaid or boots. On Tuesday, everyone found a twin and matched for “Which Witch is Which” day. Hannah Van Der Kamp and I twinned together on our Percy Jackson shirts. The next day was “There’s a tornado coming” and people wore their class colors. Freshman were yellow because of the yellow brick road. Thursday was one of my favorites and it was “Munchkin Mania” where people wore crazy socks and clothes. All we did on Friday was “Maroon City” because it’s our school’s main color, but we do Maroon Fridays every Friday. All of my friends and I went full out and had a blast together.

Football Games

To be honest, I barely watched the game at all! Julia, Izzy, Hannah, and I performed on the float between games and that was a blast. We won the Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity games against Ponderosa High School, but the big game (Varsity) we won 35 to 8! My friends and I all sat in the student section and cheered and had a great time together as we anxiously waited for the winners of spirit points from the week. The Freshman Class of 2021 came in second place with spirit points which is amazing because we are only freshman.

Rally

The Homecoming rally was so much fun! The whole gym was decorated with scenes from the movie and all sorts of other decorations. The Whitney dance, cheer, and Powderpuff cheer teams all performed. There were also games and lots of cheering. The two “hosts” also did a little skit to transition from game to game. It was a fantastic first night rally.

Homecoming Dance

My first Homecoming dance was AWESOME! I loved my dress, shoes, and jewelry so much. Before the dance, my friends came over to my house and we got ready together and ate tacos from Chandos Tacos. Then, we found a great place to do pictures. The dance itself was the best, though! The gymnasium looked fantastic with all the decorations and lights (great job Whitney Leadership). Alicia Cho and I made our way to the front of the “pit”, AKA the huge mass of people in front of the DJ, and started dancing together. At one point, we were directly in front on the DJ and partied it up.
