Getting to hike in the wilderness is the best kind of adventure. This time my family and I went up to the Shasta area to hike to see the parts of McCloud Falls and Hedge Creek Falls, which were both flowing with water because of all the rain. That day, we hiked about a total of seven miles to see all four waterfalls (plus the small dam) we were hiking to get close to.
The first one we saw was Lower McCloud Falls which was the smallest. That one was only a few minuets from the trailhead so it was no big deal getting to it. It was small, but it looked like an amazing picnic spot and had a huge swimming hole at the bottom along with a nice creek at the top.
The second one was Middle McCloud and I thought that one was definitely the best one. Lots of rocks were at the base of this one so you can get super close to it. The water was flowing like crazy when we went which made it even cooler to see. It even cooled us off a bit with the mist.
Lastly, we hiked to Upper McCloud Falls which was further away, but still an amazing sight to see. Luckily, the hike was mostly flat so we didn’t get too tired. From this fall, we went towards Lakin Dam and it was pretty far.
After seeing all of McCloud Falls, we drove to the trailhead for Hedge Creek Falls. This trail led us to an amazing waterfall, that was my favorite of the day. People can go in, under, and behind the falls and I did two of those. Going in the base of it was FREEZING, but it made for an awesome picture, so it was worth it. Being able to go behind it was fun to get to do as well because it was a different view of the waterfall and it was like a secret tunnel, kind of. This one you need to just accept the fact you’re going to get wet. We did it to end the day so i wasn’t hiking with wet shoes and wet shorts. The best way to cool off os to go under a waterfall!
We had so much fun exploring all the falls in just this one area and I’m excited fro the next waterfall adventure with my family!
